Introduction
Shot peening is one of the competitive mechanical treatment used to modify surface mechanical properties of automotive and aircraft components by inducing compressive residual stresses [1]. Warm shot peening consists of impacting metals with high velocity shots at a specific temperature. In this study, shot peening at room temperature and at elevated temperatures in the range of 150⁰C to 300⁰C was conducted, using low, medium, and high Almen intensities to highlight the influence of the process on the arc height, the surface roughness, the hardness, and microstructure changes of AA2024-T351 specimens.
Objectives
Study the influence of temperature and Almen intensity on the surface roughness, hardness and microstructural changes of AA2024-T351 during shot peening. Moreover, obtain the potential dynamic strain aging (DSA) temperature by analysing the hardness, and microstructure changes.
