Introduction
In the last decade, surface patterning and modifying the surface morphology have attracted considerable attention due to their beneficial effects on providing components with hydrophilic/hydrophobic surfaces, high biocompatibility, bactericidal properties, etc. Soft-blasting, has been traditionally used for cleaning the unwanted contaminants from the surface. Recently, its application is studied in view of surface wettability enhancement on polymeric materials considering the roughening effect on the soft-blasted surface [1]. This new prospect of the technology requires a deep understanding of the relation between process parameters and the resulting surface morphology. To this aim, numerical models can be of utmost importance.
Objectives
The present study focuses on building a numerical model of soft-blasting process to predict surface roughness as a function of process parameters, while introducing a numerical approach to parametrize the wide range of shot size and shape variation of the blasting media.
