Introduction
The most recent trends in automotive product development involve aggressive vehicle weight reduction targets. Therefore a good and feasible strategy would be to apply the shot-peening process on the inner surface of tubular elements with the purpose to reduce its mass and provide them with compressive residual stresses, that are traduced into an equivalent fatigue life performance as solid ones just outer peened or same tubular however not inner treated.
Objectives
The aim of this work is to analyze the process parameters of the air-blast process with a specific application derivative used to peen the inner surface of tubular elements and by establishing the analytical relationship between them, couple it to existing analytical compressive residual stress and Almen Intensity prediction models for use in early stages of product/process development or improvement of currently running set-ups.
