Introduction
Improving the expected life of nickel-based single-crystal superalloy turbine components by work hardening treatments including laser shock peening (LSP) and shot peening (SP) are of particular interest for mitigation of life limiting damage such as environmental assisted cracking in hot section components of gas turbines.
Objectives
The present work studies the effects of LSP and SP on the work hardening of a nickel-based single crystal superalloy CMSX-4®. In addition, to understand the role of work hardening, surface roughness and microhardness post high temperature exposure.
