Introduction

Laser shock peening has been successfully applied to a large bunch of materials covering diverse industrial fields such as aerospace, naval, automotive, electrical plants, medicine and many others. However, within the current state of the art it suffers from limitations such as low process throughput preventing is wide adoption by industry up to now as well as the need to apply a thermally protective coating on the material to process before any treatment

Objectives

The purpose of our work was to develop simultaneously new laser sources as well as new laser peening configuration both capable to reach significantly higher throughput as well as securing a much simpler operation without the need of prior application of the thermally protective coating.
