Introduction
Shot peening is a widely used process for surface enhancement of technical components with dynamic loads from automotive, aerospace or medical industry. The lecture shows the latest technologies and trends in digitized process and quality control for such applications. Looking at a short review of blast cleaning and shot peening technologies from the Industries 1.0 through 3.0 it becomes clear which way the technology has to take to fulfill the requirements of today´s highly automated production environments. The main challenges are controllability, repeatability, flexibility, quality and traceability.
Objectives
Process management in a shot peening machine requires various parameters to be controlled. The particle mass flow requires very specific devices to achieve a reliable closed loop control. The media acceleration in the machine depends on various machine settings but these settings do not represent the true process parameters. The energy transferred to the surface is first of all a function of the shot peening media properties. Secondly it is determined by the impact velocity and angle on each spot of the part´s three dimensional surface.
