Biography:
Emmanuelle Rouhaud is a professor at the Université de Technologie de Troyes. She graduated from the Université de Technologie de Compiègne with an Engineering degree and obtained her Master and PhD in Mechanical Engineering from Washington University in Saint Louis in 1993. Her research field concerns the mechanics of materials. She develops models for the finite transformations of materials with a specific interest in the covariance of the formulations and on the modeling of manufacturing processes. She has managed several research projects with the aeronautical industry on prestress and residual stress engineering. She teaches continuum mechanics at various levels.
Abstract:
Since the early work of Jian Lu in the nineties, Surface Mechanical Attrition Treatment or SMAT has been a subject of studies at the Université de Technologie de Troyes. SMAT is an evolution of classical shot peening that has been shown to offer many benefits in terms of enhancement of fatigue life of mechanical parts. After a presentation of the process and of its advantages, the talk will concentrate on the different modeling techniques that may be used to better understand the process and its consequences on the material.
